You just have to walk through the alleys of the medieval "castrum" to discover what this flourishing city could be: thick walls encircling the stronghold, reinforced with massive towers, one of which, the Madeleine Tower, has come down to us in relative good condition; posterns spanned by the rampart walk, alleys and stairs descending the vertiginous slope.
